Health Is Catching
Many people catch upper respiratory infections in winter. They assume it’s just a virus that’s going around. It has been my experience, however, that people get sick for only two reasons:
- They are physically run down, i.e. not enough rest, nutrition, or exercise, or more commonly,
- They had a traumatic shock 24-72 hours prior.
Mary Jane caught a cold two days before her HBLU session. She thought it would clear up quickly if she just doubled her vitamins and went to bed early. But the cold dropped from her sinuses into her chest. By the time she came in, she couldn’t stop coughing. Muscle testing revealed that three days earlier she had received a bill from her divorce lawyer. Because she was expecting the bill, she didn’t realize consciously that the amount shocked her. Two days later she was sick. In the session, we treated her for the trauma, the coughing subsided, and she recovered within a few days.

Joe caught a cold three days before his HBLU session. He was so sick he ran a fever and had to miss work. Out of consideration for our staff, he opted to do his session by phone. Muscle testing revealed that three days earlier he had driven to his new girlfriend’s house for dinner. He had to drive through his old neighborhood where he had been sexually molested as a child. Although he noticed he was in a bad mood by the time he reached his girlfriend’s home, he did not consciously realize the memories had triggered a traumatic flashback. After treating the sexual abuse trauma he immediately felt less feverish and recovered from the cold in a few days.
How does traumatic shock result in respiratory infections?
When a person experiences a physical or emotional shock it triggers the Fight/Flight/Freeze reflex in the brain. The pituitary gland releases adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH), which activates the adrenal glands causing them to release adrenaline, cortisol, and endorphins into the bloodstream. Cortisol circulates to the thymus and shuts down the immune system. Within 24 hours, cortisol kills 1/2 of the circulating NK cells, the cells responsible for killing virally infected cells and cancer. With their immune system compromised, people often get viral infections within a day or two after a serious shock.
Furthermore, anything that was in the environment at the time the flight/fight/freeze reflex fired off, can get associated with that memory. Later on these associations can trigger this original reflex reaction, (like a body flashback) resulting in a phobic reaction, even when nothing dangerous or upsetting is occurring in the present moment. This is why people can experience a physiological shock reaction without consciously realizing it. Under these circumstances, they may not think to do the Natural Bio-Destressing technique (NBD) to clear trauma from body right then.
So when people come to my office with an upper respiratory infection, we test for and treat the traumatic shock that triggered the illness.
What is the best way to keep myself healthy?
I recommend that as soon as you notice that something is upsetting you, do a round (or more) of NBD technique. In case you don’t notice that something upset you, do a round of NBD first thing in the morning and before you go to bed to make sure your nervous system and your immune system are calm. And if you consciously recognize that you’ve been traumatized, do a round of NBD immediately, and either treat yourself to clear the entire trauma memory, or get help from an HBLU practitioner.
Health is catching. You have more of a choice than you know. Take good care of your body, use NBD, and stay healthy.
If you or anyone you know would like to manage your health better or stay healthy, HBLU methodology can help you. If you would like to learn more or schedule an appointment, please call 781-444-6940, email info@hblu.org, or go to
